That advantage was erased early in the second frame when Adrian Peterson scored on a 40-yard run to give the Vikings a 7-6 lead. Akers reclaimed the lead for the Eagles when he hit a 31-yard field goal midway through the second and then Samuel gave Philly a 16-7 cushion when he picked off Tarvaris Jackson and went 44 yards for the touchdown. NFL Playoff Schedule Sunday January 4: Philadelphia Eagles Face Minnesota Vikings in Wildcard Round

Posted on 1/5/2009 @ 4:02 PM in #Sports by Brendan123456 0 comments

The NFL playoffs continue on Sunday and in the NFC wildcard round the Philadelphia Eagles (9-6-1) will be on the road to face the NFC North champion Minnesota Vikings (10-6) for the right to move on. After a three game stretch that dropped them to 5-5-1 the Eagles have surged, winning four of their last five games to capture the final spot in the playoffs. Much of that has been due to the play of quarterback Donovan McNabb who has put behind a slow start to surge when Philadelphia needed him most. On the defensive end the Eagles haven’t given up more than 14 points in their last four games and that includes wins over the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. The Philadelphia defense was the best in the NFC, allowing just 274.3 yards per game and 18.1 points. They’ll be tested on Sunday when they face the Vikings Adrian Peterson who led the NFL in rushing this year. Peterson has averaged 110 yards per game for the Vikings but he’ll need to hold on to the ball if he is to be effective against the Eagles.

NFL Playoffs Schedule Sunday January 4: Baltimore Ravens Travel to Face Miami Dolphins

Posted on 1/5/2009 @ 4:02 PM in #Sports by Brendan123456 0 comments

The NFL playoffs enter their second day on Sunday and after two upsets on Saturday the favored Baltimore Ravens (11-5) will look to reverse the trend when they take on the Miami Dolphins (11-5) when they meet in South Florida. Baltimore has bounced back from a 2-3 start to their season and their resurgence began with a 27-13 victory over Miami in Week 7. In that game rookie quarterback Joe Flacco was 17/23 for 232 yards and a touchdown while Willis McGahee rushed for 105 yards and a TD. As strong as Flacco played in that game, Sunday will pose new challenges as he enters his first postseason. He’ll need some help from the offensive line who will need to slow Joey Porter who finished the year with 17.5 sacks. Of course the Ravens have always been defined by their defense in against Miami they shut down the wildcat offense and limited the Dolphins to just 71 yards on the ground. That will certainly be the goal on Sunday but Miami is a different team since that loss. After falling to 2-4 on the

NFL Playoffs Schedule Saturday, January 3: Indianapolis Colts Travel to Take on San Diego Chargers in AFC Showdown

Posted on 1/5/2009 @ 3:52 PM in #Sports by Brendan123456 0 comments

The NFL playoffs kickoff on Saturday and the AFC will be pitting a pair of teams that have already played each other once this year but today’s game has a bit more weight behind it as the winner will advance to the next round while the loser goes home. The Indianapolis Colts (12-4) managed to beat the San Diego Chargers (8-8) 23-20 in Week 12 when Adam Vinatieri connected on a 51-yard field goal as time expired. For the Colts the victory over the Chargers, at San Diego, was game four of their current nine-game winning streak and put them back in the chase for a playoff spot after a rough 3-4 start to the year. On the other end, the loss dropped the Chargers to 4-7 and looked to be a nail in their coffin but all was not over. Despite having four more wins than the Chargers the Colts will be on the road Saturday as a result of San Diego winning the AFC West. Usually a home game would prove advantageous but the Colts posted a 6-2 mark on the road this year including wins over the Minnesota Vikings and

Boston Celtics Rumored to be Interested in Acquiring Stephon Marbury

Posted on 1/2/2009 @ 9:29 PM in #Sports by Brendan123456 0 comments

The Boston Celtics, looking to strengthen their bench following the departure of P.J. Brown and James Posey from a year ago, are said to be interested in acquiring the beleaguered New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury. Marbury, engrossed in a contract dispute with the Knicks, hasn’t played a possession all year and no longer appears on the club’s bench or any basketball related functions. The two sides have tried to negotiate a settlement for his release but Marbury remains firm in his position that he would only agree to a buyout that included all the money guaranteed from his contract. That position could change with the interest from the Celtics, giving Marbury an opportunity to play on a club that is once again a favorite to capture an NBA title. Marbury has said he would like to play for the Celtics if he can get his contract sorted out. Marbury has played with Kevin Garnett in the past, the two spent three seasons together in a Minnesota Timberwolves uniform, but that relationship wasn’t always

Peyton Manning Wins Third NFL MVP Award, Ties Mark Set by Brett Favre

Posted on 1/2/2009 @ 9:29 PM in #Sports by Brendan123456 0 comments

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has been named the NFL’s MVP, the third time he has been named the league’s best player. The announcement on Friday now places Manning in the company of Brett Favre, the only other player in NFL history to capture three MVP awards. The voting wasn’t even close as Manning collected 32 votes, far more than Chad Pennington and Michael Turner who each nabbed four votes. Manning led a second half surge for the Colts that gave the club to its sixth straight season with at least twelve wins. The Colts have been on a nine-game winning streak as Manning has bounced back from a slow start due in large part to an injury. Despite the slow start Manning still threw for 4,002 yards and 27 touchdowns and put the Colts in the playoffs where they will face the San Diego Chargers on Saturday. Manning’s 4,000+ passing yards marked the ninth straight season he has hit that total, an NFL record. He collected his other two MVP awards in 2003 and 2004. Click here for more

NFL Playoffs Schedule for Saturday, January 3: Atlanta Falcons Travel to Arizona Cardinals

Posted on 1/2/2009 @ 9:28 PM in #Sports by Brendan123456 0 comments

The 2008 NFL playoffs get under way on Saturday with the NFC and AFC each fielding teams and the early game will feature Atlanta Falcons (11-5) traveling to face the Arizona Cardinals (9-7) with a 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff set. Atlanta has made a remarkable turnaround from a 4-12 record a year ago to an 11-5 mark this year and Saturday’s game against Arizona could be determined by how well the Cardinals handle the balanced offensive attack of the Falcons. While quarterback Matt Ryan has received a lot of praise for his rookie campaign and much has been made about the resurgence of wide receiver Roddy White the true heart of the Atlanta offense is their ground attack and more specifically Michael Turner. After coming over from the Chargers in the offseason Turner has put together an outstanding year in which he finished second in the NFL in rushing yards while wearing down defenses with his bruising runs. Turner was complemented by Jerious Norwood who has provided bursts of speed out of the backfield and been
